eProsima and Sony are working together to develop the Content Filtered Topics feature in Fast DDS that will be available to use in ROS 2.
Content Filtered Topics is a Fast DDS feature that allows users to get only the data they want to receive when subscribing to a topic, thus helping to conserve network resources. In other words, a Content Filtered Topic is a Topic with filtering capabilities that allows users to segment under certain criteria the subset of data of their interest when subscribing to a Topic.
The benefits of using Content Filtered Topics are:
- Conserving network resources
- Receiving only the data of interest
eProsima and Sony are currently working to develop the first source Content Filtered Topics feature for Fast DDS, which will have a first release that provides content filter capabilities for the Reader by end of 2021, and the final one for the Writer by Q1 2022.
