Madrid, January 2021
eProsima is happy to announce the integration of several Micro XRCE-DDS and micro-ROS packages into the ROS 2 common packages, specifically ROS REP-2005.
This achievement makes an integration of microcontrollers and sensors into the ROS 2 ecosystem much easier.
Packages being integrated into ROS 2 must be compliant with the following points:
- Open source and connected to the ROS 2 project;
- Broadly usable and evidently used by a nontrivial part of the community;
- Actively maintained and following accepted software development processes;
- At Quality Level 3 or better (as defined in REP-2004);
- Maintained by an organization or at least two individuals;
- Such that all of their ROS 2 dependencies also comply with the above.
The packages that form now part of ROS REP 2005 are:
- eProsima/Micro-CDR
- eProsima/Micro-XRCE-DDS
- eProsima/Micro-XRCE-DDS-Agent
- eProsima/Micro-XRCE-DDS-Client
- eProsima/Micro-XRCE-DDS-Gen
- micro-ROS/micro_ros_arduino
- micro-ROS/micro-ROS-Agent
- micro-ROS/rmw-microxrcedds
- micro-ROS/rosidl_typesupport_microxrcedds
ABOUT EPROSIMA MICRO XRCE-DDS:
Micro-XRCEDDS is an open source wire protocol developed by eProsima which provides access to the DDS Global-Data-Space for resource-constrained devices. This protocol implements the OMG DDS for eXtremely Resource Constrained Environment standard (DDS-XRCE).
ABOUT EPROSIMA AND MICRO-ROS:
eProsima is the coordinator of the EU-founded OFERA project. Together with the other OFERA members BOSCH, PIAP and the FIWARE Foundation, the project develops micro-ROS, a robotic framework that brings ROS 2 onto microcontrollers.
