micro-ROS - Associate Member of the Zephyr Project

Madrid, October 2020

micro-ROS is now an Associate Partner of the Zephyr Project and together they target the same range of embedded systems such as connected sensors and actuators, and small IoT devices of all kinds. They complement each other by allowing to easily create heterogeneous distributed robotic systems and also integrate these devices into the ROS 2 (Robot Operating System) ecosystem.

micro-ROS is an open source Robotic Operating System which bridges extremely resource constrained platforms to more complex robotic architectures of ROS 2, the de facto standard robotic framework. It runs on Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), and uses the DDS middleware Micro XRCE-DDS, that is, DDS for eXtremely Resource-Constrained Environments.

The Zephyr Project is a scalable open source real time operating system (RTOS) designed to fit resource constrained and embedded systems, with safety and security in mind. The Zephyr Project forms part of the Linux Foundation, which supports a wide range of open source projects.

About micro-ROS:

micro-ROS is the outcome of the OFERA project, an EU funded project creating an extension of the Robot Operating System (ROS) for microcontrollers.

The OFERA consortium is formed by eProsima, Bosch, PIAP and the FIWARE Foundation.
micro-ROS’ Associate Membership has been done through the FIWARE Foundation.
