EIVA’s NaviSuite software, used globally for maritime operations relies on a publisher-subscriber communication model powered by eProsima’s Open-Source Fast DDS, providing a robust and scalable framework for consistent data exchange and real-time functionality.
To facilitate real-time communication between ships and stations, EIVA utilizes eProsima’s DDS Router. This software application connects distributed DDS networks across geographic locations by routing DDS traffic via WAN (Wide Area Network). By deploying DDS Routers on edge devices within each local network, publishers and subscribers can communicate effectively and securely across geographically dispersed areas.
A key element of the collaboration between EIVA and eProsima is the upcoming release of eProsima RPC over DDS. This technology enables vessels to consistently request and retrieve information from remote monitoring systems, ensuring efficient and reliable communication across diverse customer stations. A new feature was created due to this collaboration: RPC Feed. This feature includes advanced communication capabilities:
- Server streaming, where the server sends a stream of messages to the client in response to a single request, concludes with status details and metadata.
- Client streaming occurs when the client transmits a stream of messages to the server, which responds with a single message after processing the input.
This newly designed feature will be presented with the next release of eProsima’s Fast DDS, planned for March. This will further enhance its functionality and scalability for advanced communication systems.
